When he arrives in a godforsaken Baltimore district where his father has just taken over a grocery store, Elliott, a shy and hard-working student, wonders if he will be able to make new friends… But unexpectedly enough, he adapts quickly to his new environment, and forms a strong friendship with Sixteen and his gang of corner boys.
Mr. Friedman, a grocer grieving after the disappearance of his wife, is taking weapons training courses for self-defense; Washington, a marine in despair following his return from Iraq and a victim of the sub-prime crisis; Ellis One, a new kingpin in the neighborhood who intends to show everyone who's boss with great a response from his M60… So many characters whose destinies intersect, with the neighborhood grocery store as a central point.
